The Ex/Hazloc inspection contract awarded to Houston-based inspection company Global Ex Solutions, was carried out in 2019 and 2020 at the Ingleside yard, Texas. A professional team of GExS inspectors conducted Ex inspections to the NEC 505 and 500 codes, inspecting all electrical and instrumentation equipment located in the asset’s hazardous locations. Highly qualified GExS personnel worked seamlessly with other teams involved in the project to complete the project safely, on time and within budget.
The asset is the BP Argos the company’s fifth operated platform in the Gulf of Mexico and the first new platform since Thunder Horse began production in 2008. It will provide BP with growth potential and an estimated 25% increase in production capacity in the region. Construction of the 60,000-ton platform has a deck the length and width of an American football field and was started in March 2018 at Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea.
GExS Managing Director, Tony Scott, states, “GExS is one of a small number of companies with the expertise and management structure to deliver a full Ex Hazardous Location inspection service. This was our first large project as a main contractor, and we have proven our skills and expertise in operating successfully in the oil and gas industry.”
